Gardening Time

The growing season is upon us again. So start preparing your gardens for the summer and get planting. Whatever your garden, hanging basket or container can sustain its worth entering it into the competition.

Allotment Club

We are embarking on the second growing season since starting a community allotment. Last year we produced a cracking crop of vegtables the surplus of which was sold in the Share Cafe.

However there is a lot to do and we need some extra hands to help out. Don't worry of you're not green fingered or super fit, not all the activites are hard core digging and lifting. There are many things to do so whatever your interests or capability give us a call.

So if you fancy yourself to be green fingered or just want to have a go you're more than welcome to join us.

Contact Michelle Beddow, the Echo Team or the Webmaster for further details.

Baneswell kids go Rock Climbing

On Friday 18th February about 11 of us went rock climbing with our youth club up at Gilwern Centre. It was very good fun the youth workers also joined in, Jan and a lady from the ECHO called Helen. They were both very good but if I can say Helen was a bit nervous and jumpy.

At first we did an activity – it was like this – we had to be strapped to our safety ropes and stand on a crate and keep building up until the crates got to about 16. Then they would take some crates out of the bottom until it fell, then the three people would be dangling in the air and then the two men Jason and Justin would lower us down it was very good fun and everyone enjoyed it.

After that we had a 20 minute break then we went and done some real rock climbing it was very good fun. We had to strap ourselves to the clip and then two people would hold the rope and one of the people had to be clipped to the rope and after being checked you was ready to climb. Only some got to the top but the others got half way and the ones that was scared of heights did very well and we all said that we would like to go again.

Next time the youth workers said that we are going horse riding and now we are all looking forward to going.
